Kiwoom Heroes’ Lee Jung-hoo surpassed the .300 mark for the first time this season.
Lee started at third base against KT Wiz in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on April 11 and went 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored, and two walks. Kiwoom won 14-5 and moved into eighth place in the league.
Lee, who won the league MVP award last season along with five batting titles (batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, RBIs, and runs scored), got off to a slow start this season. On April 22, his batting average dropped to 1 for 9.
But Lee Jung-hoo was Lee Jung-hoo. Gradually picking up his pace, Lee has now hit in 14 straight games, including a four-hit performance in this game to raise his season batting average to 3-for-4 (70-for-230). On the season, he’s 3-for-4 with six doubles, six home runs, 34 RBIs and an OPS of .863 in 58 games.
In a postgame interview, Lee said, “My teammates kept telling me that I was going to hit a triple this time, so I was aware of it, but I didn’t really realize it. I don’t want to attach too much significance to it because there’s still a lot of season left and if I keep doing this, it will just pass me by,” he said of his triple-digit batting average.
He’s always been a confident player, but his slump was longer than expected and not easy to overcome. When asked what he did to get out of his slump, Lee said, “A lot. “I did a lot of things,” he said, “I tried sprinkling salt on my body in the hotel sauna, and I tried hitting a massage gun with a bat. I went to church and sprinkled holy water from my mother on my bat,” he said. “I continued with the specialty until mid-May, and after that, I thought my stamina would decrease, so I decided to continue with the routine I had been doing instead of the specialty. I think I improved because I stuck to the routine and worked out,” he added.
“My mother helped me a lot,” Lee said, “She would go to dawn prayers for me and her lifestyle was almost tailored to me. If it wasn’t for her dedication, it would have been difficult for me to rebound so quickly,” he said.메이저사이트
After his successful rebound, Lee said, “There is still a lot of season left. I don’t think I can stop here, but I have to play better. I lost about a month and a half, and I think I need to play well for three months to make up for it. My goal has always been to do better than last year, but this year I didn’t have a good start, so I will play as well as I can until the end of the season,” he said, showing his determination to improve and not rest on his laurels.
