Cho Kyu-sung scored his debut goal on his debut. Afterwards, he shared his thoughts on his debut for the fans.

Mittwylan defeated Hvidørre 1-0 in the opening match of the 2023-24 바카라 Danish Superliga at the MCH Arena in Herning, Denmark, at 2:00 a.m. on 22 February.

Cho Kyu-sung was the star of the show. He scored his debut goal on his debut. Cho joined Mittwillan in the summer transfer window from Jeonbuk Hyundai. Mittwilan wanted him badly, and the club’s interests aligned with his desire to play in Europe. Mittwilan showed their expectations by giving him the number 10 shirt, and he rewarded them with a debut goal.

As a starter, Cho worked to link up the attack, moving between the left and right flanks, the centre and the second line, just as he had done at Jeonbuk. It was a game that showcased his strengths as a player who doesn’t just look for the finish, but works with his teammates to assemble attacks from the front. He is also physically strong, so he was able to hold his own against players from the Danish league, often creating threatening moments that drew cheers from the fans.

There were signs of a goal. In the 25th minute, Cho curled the ball in sharply with his left foot and found the back of the net, but his shot hit the post. It was a tie. The first half ended 0-0, but in the second half, Cho took the lead. In the 11th minute of the second half, Cho rushed forward and headed home a cross from the left flank by his teammate to rattle the opposition net.

The goal was reminiscent of the one against Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar last year. In that match, Cho scored twice from crosses by Lee Kang-in and Kim Jin-soo to turn a 0-2 deficit into a 2-2 tie. After scoring the opening goal, Cho Kyu-sung created several other good chances before being substituted in the 28th minute.

According to football stats site Futbolmob, Cho had a 78 per cent passing success rate, 33 per cent shooting accuracy (three attempts), one successful cross (100 per cent), one successful tackle (50 per cent), four recoveries, two successful ground battles (33 per cent) and two successful aerial battles (33 per cent). The media gave him a rating of 8.2, the second-best rating on the team, while another football statistics website, Couch Score, ranked him first on the team with a rating of 7.8. He was also named the match’s official Man of the Match (MOM).

After the game, Cho gave an interview. According to the Meatwillan official website, he said, “I’m really happy to have made my debut and even more happy to have scored. However, there are many games to come, so I will forget about today’s game, focus on the upcoming games and adapt to the Danish league,” he said, adding that he was happy to score but would prepare for the next game.

“I was impressed with the atmosphere in the stadium and the support the fans gave us,” Cho added. They were cheering for us throughout the game. I was surprised to see people on and off the pitch, and they were friendly to me. As for the stadium, I wasn’t surprised because it’s the same as what I know in Korea,” he said, adding that he takes care of his fans.

Finally, when asked if he could score in the next game, Cho smiled and said “yes”.

Meatwillan’s next game is on the 27th at 1:45am.
