Australia (10th), Japan (11th) and China (13th) were allotted Port 1. Korea, ranked 17th, belonged to pot 2 along with Vietnam (33rd) and Taiwan (37th). Port 3 included Thailand (44th), the Philippines (49th) and Uzbekistan (50th).

Pot 4 includes India (61st), Iran (67th) and North Korea. North Korea has not played an A match since March 2019 and has been excluded from the ranking system according to FIFA rules. Accordingly, they headed for port 4.

The draw for the Asian 2nd qualifying round will be held on the 18th at 12 noon at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The second qualifying round will be held in Australia, China and Uzbekistan from October 23rd to November 1st.

The 12 teams will be divided into 3 groups of 4 teams for the second qualifying round. The top 3 teams in each group and the top 1 team in each group will advance to the final round. In the final qualifier, two teams will face each other home and away, and the winner will win the right to advance to the Paris Olympics.
